The benefits of the Buffer Zone Project--which emphasizes interest group consultation, training and mutual cooperation--include the following:

- The purpose and benefits of buffer zones are understood and supported by local residents.

- Approximately 70 percent of Hustai National Park employees are from Argalant, Altanbulag and Bayankhangai soums.

- Approximately 40 herder groups have been established in the buffer zone. They are engaged in a number of business activities that supplement their families’ income from livestock. These activities include: livestock and vegetable farms, cheese and yoghurt production, felt making and the shops where felt products are sold and community-based tourism. In addition, local hospitals, schools and government offices receive subsidies for the development of kindergartens, hospitals, hospital laboratories, teachers’ accommodation and cultural centers.
